Mandalay Flower

Posted by

A Mandalay flower seller complete with generous coating of Thanaka.

Thanaka is a traditional Burmese cosmetic made from bark, that also acts as a sunscreen. It's used throughout Burma, mostly by women and girls. Often it's applied in a variety of patterns in a tradition that goes back over 2000 years.

This and the following few pics were all taken in January 2011.
