While in Canberra I came across this remarkable work in the National Gallery of Australia Sculpture Garden. Heads from the North is a permanent installation by Dadang Christanto, an Indonesian artist now living in Australia.
The heads are Indonesian civilians fleeing from military sanctioned violence during the 'disturbances' in 1965-66. Many thousands were brutally killed in vendettas that sought to settle political, communal and personal differences.
Shot on my 'best' camera. My iPhone4, the one I had with me when I saw this photo opportunity. ;-)
