Stormy WeatherPosted by Stephen Skok (ASCOT VALE, Australia) on 13 July 2008 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio. This was taken at the New Years Day Anti Imperialist Concert. On January 1 the Cubans celebrate the the start of the Revolution. Batista fled Cuba in the morning of January 1 . Castro took Santiago de Cuba that night and Camilo Cienfuegos and Che Guevara entered Havana on 2 January. There were stages set up all round Havana and throughout the country. This was the main one, located right next door to the 'US Interests Section of the Embassy of Switzerland in Havana'. Where else would you hold and Anti Imperialism concert? I was lucky enough to be allowed about 15 minutes on stage to take pix. A tropical storm broke out and began to rain and blow on their New Years Day parade. The gear was getting seriously wet as were the performers. So who in the interests of safety, was going to pull the electrical plug. Well, not these boys & girls. Celebrating the Revolution is serious business! The performances were brilliant, the rain abated and everyone had a great time, especially the visitors from Oz.
